How to set up the Internet in Windows 2000

Note: Your username and email address are the same. They are in the form johndoe@fayetteville.net.

  1. Click on the Start menu.
  2. Click on Settings.
  3. Click on Network and Dial Up Connections.

  4. Open Make New Connection.

  5. Click the Next button.

  6. Choose Dial-up to the Internet.
  7. Click the Next button.

  8. Choose I want to set up my Internet Connection manually, or I want to connect through a local area network (LAN).
  9. Click the Next button.

  10. Choose I connect through a phone line and a modem.
  11. Click the Next button.

  12. In the Telephone number box, enter the number of your dial-up POP. Click here to locate a POP near you.
  13. Uncheck Use area code and dialing rules.
  14. Click the Next button.

  15. In the User name box, type your email address.
  16. In the Password box, type your password.
  17. Click the Next button.

  18. In the Connection name box, type in your username.
  19. Click the Next button.

  20. Choose No.
  21. Click the Next button.

  23. If you wish to delete an old connection go on to step #24, otherwise go to step #27.
  24. Right click on the connection you want to delete
  25. Click Delete from the context menu.
